I'm going to be doing a few classes this summer beginning at the Fly Tying expo next month (thanks Jason & Nick) and later at the FF Fantasy Camp in August. So instead of doing my usual schtick of slideshow, camera basics, & FAQ's, I thought I open this forum up to suggestions.
What would you like to learn at such a seminar?
-Simple camera info (what to buy and avoid in a camera and lenses)
-Camera settings (how to set said camera under certain conditions to achieve the image you want, complete with rubber "stand in" fish)
-Composition
-Esthetics
-Fish handling
-???????
Please post any other helpful info you would like to see here and I'll put together a program to better serve your fish/outdoor/photo needs. It should be awesome!
Thanks,
BugEye

It seems to be a pretty big topic on this board .. You could prob do a segment on taking photos of your flies ... along with making a inexpensive lightbox, dslr and/or pos options (best bang for your buck sort of thing)

I think Camera settings would be more helpful than almost anything else. Its hard to get the most out of a camera if you leave it on one setting.

Doug,
- I think it would be great to hear some of your opinions and thoughts on Camera brand and why you prefer to shoot with a particular camera. There is so much debate going on right now (and there always will be) between Nikkon and Canon. What are the advantages of shooting one over the other. What do the professionals prefer to shoot with in regards to the many styles in photography.
- Shooting full frame vs. cropped.
- Lens discussion in regards to quality and and what to look for in a lens.
- Prime Lens's, advantages and disadvantages.
- Image cataloging and storing. Programs you use or recommend for bulk import or export. How you currently index all of your images.
- Stopping Down, what it means and how to apply it to a given lens.
- Photo Composition, basics for setting up a shot and how you personally approach it.
- Photographer opportunities, how to get involved or break into the photography industry. (your experience as a professional photographer over the years. It would be interesting to here how you got into the industry, the jobs you have held as a photographer and some of your experiences you have had while shooting on assignment.
These are only a few ideas I had but I would love to hear about your experiences.
This should be a GREAT class! Anyone that wants to learn more about photography should check this one out and not miss an opportunity to learn from Doug Barnes, professional photographer and owner/operator of

I think you developing into a fine young man would also be a hit at this Expo.
But then again lets get realistic.
