I have a project to shoot in the capital of Idaho in the next couple weeks and was wondering about this...How long does it take to drive to this ditch from Boise? Curtis, anyone? And what's the road like to the river? Paved? Dirt? Smooth? Bring a Hummer?
Thanks!

The drive to the Owyhee is easy. It's about 1 to 1.5 hrs from Boise, depending on where you are and how far up the river you want to drive. The road is paved the whole way. Some of the turn-outs are a little dicey, but I've taken a regular car up there many o' time.
It's easiest to take the Parma/Notus exit just past Caldwell and drive to Nyssa. Passing through Nyssa, stop by the M&W market and pick up some of the best donuts in the world from my Dad's bakery. Say hi to him for me.
Just past the store, you'll see the turnoff to the Owyhee, take a left and follow the signs.
Midges and Baetis will be the ticket this time of year. Look for more of the riffly water and smaller pools for fish working. You can always strip streamers in the bigger slower sections as well.
I usually go past the tunnel before I start fishing this time of year. Between the tunnel and the dam, there are some decent spots. Let me know if you have any other questions.
