I bit the bullet and booked a day trip to Lee's Ferry later this month. This will be the first time down there for me. Looks like Zebra Midges, Scuds, and maybe a San Juan worm are popular choices, in the 18 to 22 range.
The guide I spoke with told me they would supply the flies, and I would just pay for the ones I used, which seems reasonable. However, I would like to try some of my own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone ever heard of a "Desert Storm"? Recipe?
Any other advice to help make my trip successful would be cool also.
thanks in advance-

If you would like my advice here it is. Stay home or spend your hard earned money fishing the Green or somewhere up North. Every person I have talked to has not been impressed with Lees Ferry and none of the my friends would pay for the trip again. The fishing consists of fishing from overly crowded river stretches and the fish are not that impressive in size. The heat in the canyon walls can be an absolute butt kicker also.

I have been invited serveal times and I have turned everyone of the trips down. I have even had a free trip offered to me and I still chose to go fish the Provo river instead. If you only going down to fish the river, save yourself the time and the money for a trip that would be worth your while. If I remember the price for the guide is more than one on the Green and there is very little, if any, river wading from the access point.

If I'm wrong in my information someone need to correct me. I'm only passing on what many of my friends have told me about this place. If you go please pass on the report. I would like to compare it to the log I have to see what has changed, if anything.

Yes, please let us know how your trip goes. I, for one, am very interested in knowing how the fishing is there.

Green.
I've not fished the Ferry. But had a friend go down that I fish the Green with. He also said he'd never go back. He also mentioned the fish were'nt that impressive. I read an article in FlyFisherman a couple of years ago, that got me hot an bothered to go down there. After his report, I'm glad I didn't go. A Section of the Green is really hard to beat anywhere in the West/ USA for that matter. It's also one of the prettiest places I've seen. If you're going to fork out the dough on a guide, drive 3 hours instead of 7.
If you want to drive 5-7, Go to the Henry's fork, Beaver Head, or Madison.

I had the opportunity to fish it a couple of years back in September and it was one of the top-10 days in 20+ years fishing. I ever caught anything larger than 18" but it was non-stop. We fished nymphs, streamers and dries (yes, dries) and they were eating anything that had a good drift. Unless things have gone down the toilet, I'd give it a shot and make your own decision. It is also insanely beautiful in the bottom of the canyon. We did not have any other people around.
