I desperately need a vacation and in light of that and the fact that I got a new Spey rod, I'm seriously thinking of going to try the Snake River in ID.
The question is, where is there public access and decent stretches of river to relieve my stress? I've never fished the Snake. Any advice or directions you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I personally love the stretch between Powder River and Farewell Bend on the Oregon/Idaho border. Big water to practice your spey casting on...

two obvious reccomendations would be either box canyon or the ranch of the henry's fork....... box is big heavy water (bushy dries and big, weighted nymphs in pocket water) and railroad ranch is the famous dry fly water you always hear about-- huge spring creek with monster hatches of tiny bugs..... very technical......
there are some other locales here...... i haven't fished it much, but box canyon is a good time...... you'll see a few people, but it's fun.....

Spey doesn't necessarily mean exclusively fishing for steelhead. I'm perfectly willing to fish for trout with my spey rod.
Please keep the recommendations coming.

Between Shelly and Firth.
Not a lot of people there, but big f'ing fish.
And as for relieving your stress, I suggest getting a girlfriend.

I have spey fished the salmon river for steelhead a hand full of times. It's great. I would much rather fish the spey rod now than any other rod I own. If I was going this weekend i would fish north of Salmon ID. In a week I would go between Challis and Salmon by the end of the month I would fish between Challis and Stanely. I Live in Roy and it's about a six hour drive to Salmon. I can usually do this trip for under $150. There are quite a few campsites along the river, so most of the cost is gas and an out of state license. i think a three day fishing/steelhead licence is aroud thirty five dollars. Good luck
