ghillie welcome to the site!!! I loved your birding photos. I have been inspired to do more from the photos posted by friends over on FTF.

I took this shot this past summer at Bountiful pond. These guys were not to friendly so I took this at 400mm

Garth,

It appears your IMG tags do not work. You need to first host your image with a free web service. Set up an account with flickr or www.photobucket.com

Upload your photos into photobucket and then you can click on the IMG code that is provided for each photo on photobucket and paste it here.

Your images will then show up in posts!

Garth, you need to post the entire URL where the image is located/hosted. You just put in the file name. :-)

I tried that on a second post and it did not work. Here I will try again.

Look Close and see the Zoro Mask over his eyes. Like a Raccon or a Chucker.

Done with photobucket. created an account.

Yep, I got Jax from a breeder in Heber. He nailed me a couple coveys of chukar yesterday with a couple nice points. Whom might you be?

Sorry for the hi-jack of the thread.

I used to see your hunt pics on the birddog site (haven't for awhile) I picked up a female setter from the same litter. I am really impressed with her. Been training her on alot on Bobwhites. Glad to hear that your pup is doing well. I'm pretty much sticking with Setters.

I happen to really enjoy taking bird pics, although it seems like I only do it during the winter when all the stillwater is hard. Here are a few photos from Jan/Feb 2008:

That's a beautiful pic of that female harrier. What time of day did you sneak the shot of the barn owl? The only times I've seen them are when they are just white silent ghosts in the fading twilight. Nice pics.

Nice shooting Thresh. You'll have to try your photographic skills out on some chukar partridge and pheasants one of these days.

Thanks! The owl shot was taken very late in the evening. I had actually seen this owl several times but was foiled in my attempts to get any photos. There was a spot with some cattails where I had seen him hunt before sunset, so I sat there one night and got lucky with a fly by.

'Preciate the compliment spotter. This pic is from last weekend while I was working with one of my chukar locating devices.

Thresher,

Nice photos! I do not think many people understand the patience that is involved with capturing birds of prey on the Digi. Grats on those shots. The owl pic is awesome. I hope to get a few on the camera this year. Out of curiosity are you using a prime? What lens(s) are you using out in the field?

Thanks JM, I really admire your work and post processing too. Great stuff.

Most of the time when I'm out covering ground I use a Nikon 80-400mm VR. I know you shoot Canon, and actually believe the 100-400mm IS is a better lens in this category. The waterfowl shots and the owl were taken with the 80-400. It's very light and easy to hand hold for when the unexpected happens.

I do use a prime when I expect to be somewhat stationary for a long period of time. The eagle photos were largely taken with a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR, with a Nikon 1.7x teleconverter leaving me at a 510mm f/4.8.
