View Full Version : Fly Tying Classes
There will be fly tying classes starting in Bountiful this month. Sign ups will be this Thursday, Janurary 10 at 7:00 pm at the Grace Baptist Church at 4th North and 4th East in Bountiful. The beginning class is taught by Keith Foreman. Keith has been teaching forever and there isn't anyone who he can't have tying by the end of the classes. The intermediate class is taught by Rulon Merrill who has an extensive stillwater experience. The advanced class will be taught by Mike Andreasen, author of two stillwater flytying books. His class this year will stress techniques rather that patterns. Cost of the classes will be $15.00 which includes all materials and for the beginning class a vise and basic tools will be available for use during the classes. The classes are sponsered by the Great Western Fly Club. The format will be two tying classes alternating with a club meeting. There will be a total of six classes. We usually bring in a lecturer or someone to do a tying demo for the club meetings. We also have a pot luck dinner with a raffel and in the spring a steak fry with a raffel. Steaks for the member and guest are included with the dues. The membership is $15.00 or if you are taking the fly tying class and its your first year dues are $7.50. The classes and lectures are great and a fun way to pass the winter months plus learn a few tricks to help you improve you fishing skill for spring. For further information you can call Rick at 947-0715 or Mike at 292-4736.

Do you happen to know the days of week and time the advanced class is going to be held?
The classes will be held on Thursdays at 7:00. We are able to use several rooms in the building so all class will be be running at the same time.

Thanks for the advanced notice Blue! Just kidding ya! I wasn't sure it was you as I couldn't remember your screen name, but looking at your profile and seeing that your favorite fly is the pumkin head gave it away : )
To plug the beginning class, that is how I got started tying, the beginner class with Keith 3 years ago. What a great guy with tremendous patience. If any of you are considering getting into tying your own flies, you can not beat this opportunity. Inexpensive, they provide the materials and equipment if you need it. Great guys with great fishing and tying experience. Taught in a church, so your flies are sure to catch fish. Great opportunity to network (brown nose to get an invite on a trip with some of the best stillwater guys around). Did I mention cheap?
Looking forward to seeing you next Thursday Blue.

Last night was the sign up and club bussiness meeting. Next week on Thursday you will still be able to sign up for the tying class and club if you want to. Several other people called and were unable to make it. We start at 7:00 and Buddy Knight will be giving us a presentation.
