With the cold weather upon us I thought this thread might be fitting...

What is your favorite thing that keeps you warm while fishing?

Mine is my fingerless Kenai gloves with a flip over mitten.

Hmmm... I wonder how many different types of booz will be mentioned for this one! :)

Found a great deal on this item so I bought it. After testing it in freezing temps in Wyoming and Montana I would pay full price for it. It eliminates the bulk of all the under-layers and made fishing in the cold weather very enjoyable.

I'm very pleased with a Simms Gore-Tex Windstopper jacket that I have had now for about six years. Anything that keeps the wind from it's cutting action is good and the color is a dark green which does a nice job of absorbing the rays of the sun. I've also got the Simms gloves with the fingertips open but once you submerge your hands in the water as we tend to do when releasing fish, keeping hands warm is still a problem for me. I have recently added a pair of heavy wool socks that come up over my calf, just below the knee. While dangling one's legs off of the pontoon seat in 40 degree water like we had last Wednesday at Scofield, the socks were a nice addition to keeping warm.
I've also noticed that when the fishing action is fast, I don't notice the cold as much; imagine that.

Not on warm clothing but I have a feeling the ice is hard on fly rods and particularly fly line. In the winter I put my good rod and line away for warmer weather and I have a cheep WWGriggs moderate fast action rod that performs plenty well for nymphing and a separate reel loaded with cheep line just to use in cold conditions. I also keep an extra pair of wadding boots that are a size bigger than I normally wear. This allows for some more layering or foot warmers for extra warmth without making the boots to tight. Better circulation = warmer feet.
