I guess this is a report to the max. So I went with a good friend Robert Rose to hit Scofield this morning at 4:15. So We get out on the water while its dark. The fishing was super slow. I mean it was just bad. Very little activity except a ton of these little 8-12 inch stalkers. So I had had this huge minnow pattern on all day and not a hit on it, but I was trailing off of it a painted lady (I know this isn't traditional minnow fishing but what the heck). I was heading back past the docks to cross into the other side when I hooked into a small little fish. I just gave it slack and let it unhook. So I then casted and started to strip back really fast and erratically (seemed to be on of the few ways to buy a hit that morning) and I hooked into something. Well to make a long story short I landed a 24 and a little extra inch bow (I have pictures). I put my motor on 5 and blitzed back to the shore to get my camera. I fell in the water with the bow in my net because my stupid fins sunk in to the mud. SO I ended up keeping the fish and giving it to the people on the dock. Well as I made my way off the dock I looked and noticed my toon was gone. I didn't pull it up on shore far enough when I was rushing with excitement and now it was 40+ yards off shore with my rod sitting across the seat not attached to anything and the wind was picking up. I thought for sure I had just kissed my new rod goodbye but luckily a pontoon house boat came up and saved it for me. We ended up loading up and heading back after that. We took the right hand turn towards my house and finally we got that hit we had been wanting all day. Only this one was at a time when we didn't want it. In short it turned Roberts truck into a mexi truck. For those of you who don't know what they look like they are always tilted either forwards or backwards and off to one side. I am not trying to make a racial comment thats just what I have always been told there called. So anyways it ended up totaling my friends car. I am just hoping her dog doesn't kick the bucket tonight because it inhaled a fair amount of sweat anti freeze. So thats the story of the day. I am not sure what condition that Robert is in but I have a nice little case of whip lash (should have worn a seat belt) and my back is killing me. The funniest thing was when we got hit Robert and I couldn't find our hats and mine was on his side in the back seat and his was in the back seat near mine. Fun stuff. Adventures of stillwater fishing continues.....
That's rough. BTW, it is illegal to give away fish at the water. Just let the damn thing go next time you aren't ready with the camera.

I didn't know that. They were keeping fish and hadn't gotten much but a few little stockers so I figured I was doing a nice thing. Guess I will know for next time.

Nice pictures Cort. Sorry for the tuff day but at least you can remember the rainbow. I used your streamer today, worked great.

Sounds like a great time & reads good as well. I was coveting your day, which made mine seem all that much better.
Cort, you are a true contributor to this love, art, craft, hobby, form & pass-the-time hat we all boil down & label fly-fishing. Keep on keepin' on young man.....one day, we'll be asking you how to tie on that hot new fly.

My only problem was I nearly gave myself a heart attack when I thought my rod when overboard. Trying to figure out how I was going to swim out to the pontoon in my waders, then hire a scuba diver to look for my rod. It was a great day still.

Cool story.
That sucks about the whiplash and fender bender. I'm trying to imagine the "holeeeeeeeeshiiiiiiiit" thought or yelp from the poor bastage in the CR-V.
Great bow, Cort. It's fun to catch those great big un's on a streamer. Don't worry about keeping it and giving it to someone else (despite legal ramifications), you probably made their day! We could all afford to keep fish a LITTLE bit more.

She is my neighbor 2 houses down. She was breaking out in tears and the first thought she thought of was, "I have a dance to get to tonight and my car is totaled." Kinda funny. My thought would have been. S*** how am I going to go fishing now.

Young Cort…
Let me start by offering my commiserations and congratulations on your latest outing. A 24-inch rainbow is a fine catch my friend.
At times is becomes so obvious that the fishing gods will often require a sacrifice with any successful fishing trip. This sacrifice may be required at anytime during your trip. The severity of the sacrifice can be from a simple snag and braking off your rig on the first cast, to not putting your spool on the reel good enough and having it fall off, leaving you to helplessly watch the unraveling spool spiral downward into the abyss - to loosing your whole setup or in your case having to watch as your unmanned pontoon drifts across an open lake with no way to retrieve it. My guess is because the pontoon and rod and reel were saved, a sacrifice was still required – thus the car accident. However, once again the severity of the accident was thwarted by the fact you gave you fish away to a wayward angler.
So… when enjoying a great day of fishing and nothing has gone wrong, remember somewhere somehow balance will need to be brought back to the universe.

Improv with that kind of thinking I will never fish again without dumping my rod into the water. I can just see the headline on the news. child beaten to death in Salt Lake because Bountiful Man had a great day fishing.
