Teaching a fair lass to fly fish

A woman accepted my invitation to go out on a date (she should have her contact lens prescription checked) and she wants to learn fly fishing. Any suggestions on how I should introduce her to the sport and make it a fun, memorable experience...

Even if the fishing doesn't turn out great, Pick a great scenic spot and be sure to point out how beautiful it is. As far as the fishing goes. This is up to your own discretion if it seems she wants to learn to fish, teach her to cast as patiently and calmly as possible (can sometimes be harder than it seems especially if you really want her to suceed) and focus on her learning the sport and what to do. If it seems she just wants to catch fish on a fly rod, well the bounce is a good way to go. Either way use your attitude to portray that it is not all about numbers and it is a lot easier to get them to have fun.

Just a thought but you could stretch it out over a 3 date thing. Learn the overhand cast/go to lunch, improve the cast and learn to shoot line/ go to lunch, go to a small stream with a lot of stupid fish that will hit small attractors with a bead head dropper/go to dinner. Take lots of pictures.

One more bit of food for thought. If you are going any time soon, as in during the winter. Bring an extra jacket or sweatshirt in your pack so that if she gets cold you are prepared. It will go a long way if the weather does not play along and you still keep her comfortable. Nothing can ruin a day like being cold and miserable in the middle of it.

You may have to give her some up close and personal casting instruction with both your hand and hers on the rod. You may both enjoy that aproach. After all it is a date is it not.:) MMMMMMMM I just read what I just wrote and tried to rewrite it several times. Every time I tried it seemed that I doug a deeper hole. It really was ment to be inocent.... really.....!

If you think you will be able to fish at the same time you will find she will be frustrated in nothing flat. You should also teach her some basic casting away from the river.. it works alot better. But my experience has shown that teaching a woman to fish in the river together is pretty darn fun!

I think that this is the best advice here, that and be as patience as possible with her.
If you have any books on casting bring them along or give them to her in advance.

Bring beer and don't tolerate whining. Coddle her now and you're doomed if it actually works out.

Hire a guide for a half day. Make sure he's ugly and/or married. Have him focus on her, then spend the rest of the day fishing together...you & her, not you & the guide.

I have done this several times with chicks, her are a few tips that will help you out.
9 ft rod is easier to cast with.
wear some cologne a very light scent because in my experience you can't just tell a chick how to cast you have to help her. So you stand right behind her (don't get a boner because she will feel it) hold her hand and show her the motions with the rod. You will want to be close so you don't get hit with the fly. point is don't be stinky
as soon as she's done you are done as well don't sit around and show her how its done.
if she puts on the waders let her know how good she looks in them that way she will want to put them on again. Who knows maybe they may even become some sort of lingerie. It could be hot.
And for the love make sure she catches something.....but if she doesn't want to touch the fish don't make her and don't wipe your hands off on her as a joke after.
Just a few thoughts like I said i have done this with a few girls. Trial and ERROR for me. Have a good one. i hope she puts out after.
