I usually like to buy my hackle at a local shop so I can see it up close and pick the hackle I think will work best for what I plan on tying. However I'm having a hard time locating Grizzly Hackle in different colors so now the quest begins in finding a online merchant that carries a good selection and good quality hackle. I'm not to concerned about the price as I am for the quality. I know there are a few guys here that buy materials online so any input on this would help the cause. I've looked at a few online dealers but it seems alittle the pics and info can be a little vaige.

Thanks in advance.

Pat.

Denny Rickards stocks several colors of grizzly hackle:

You might also look into European hackle by Whiting Farms. They had 4 colors or so at FishTech this summer when I came through town. I think Dennis Brakke can also get the European hackle. I've been meaning to buy some myself.

Dye them your self. Its very easy and a lot of fun. All you need is some pans and a small propane burner. I used to have a list of formulas for all the good colors but its long gone. It would not take much to figure out what they were. We could even have a dying party and do some tying while the feathers are changing colors.

there was an article, i'd look it up for you if i could, on using kool aide to dye your feathers. i think it was in fly fishermen.

Fish tech and sportsmans has a perty wide selection. Dying can become quite a mess and a bit of work if your using a bunch of different colors. I have a link somewhere for industrial dyes for natural fibers. We use ta use em when we tye dyed shirts back in the day ill see if i can find it again.

Dont know Jer. I really havent seen that wide of a selection. I am aware of the colors for Hackles and Saddles but for some reason I cant find a great selection in colors with the Grizzly patterns.

This is coming from a confessed dyed in the wool Deadhead?
Can't you just combine tie dying your tee shirts with your grizzley hackle?

Far out man!

Good advice there Mike. Dont let Jer set you up on a blind date................its probably a train wreck waiting to happen.

And thats a bad thing?

Another point to ponder on dying, mix different color dyes to customize colors. This can be a bit of a trail by error but if your looking to specifically nail down a certain color this is an option blue/yellow make green ect ect. Get some latex gloves too. Paint stores usually have color spectrum guides. Better not use the wifes new cookware either or you might be shacking up in the garage for the winter ;)
