Ribbon cable found in amost all computer is a great source of fine silver wire. Cut off the plug blocks, seperate the wires from the ribbon, and strip off the insulation. Seven very fine strands in each wire. Leave about an inch of insulation on each wire to keep strands together before use. Great for reinforcing herl midges, or ribbing small nymphs.

Get to know your copier repairman. They carry spools of fine fine gold wire . Corona wires. If a Cache Valley angler wanted one I just might find a way of getting them some.

I didn't know that ribbon cables were made of silver wire. I have tons of old SCSI cables which have a million strands each. Thanks for that advice.
I went out shooting a few weeks ago and "killed" an old inkjet printer with my new S&W 460 magnum. After performing an autopsy I found that the tiny print solenoids had been destroyed and exposed some super fine copper wire. I snatched that up for tying very small nymphs. The wire is much smaller than I've seen at the fly shops. Computer CRT monitors have some good copper around the neck of the picture tube also plus they are fun to hit with a 10 gauge shotgun. If something is computer related it probably has copper wire in it.

If anyone needs copper wire from computer equipment, please come by my office and take some of this JUNK with you! I have piles of CRT monitors, printers, fax machines, and old computers complete with IDE and SCSII cables full of super fine copper wire strands. Only 1 requirement: once it leaves my office, it never comes back!
geeks....
Right on, I just collected a bunch of this stuff from my printer.
now it won't work.
