Well got back earlier this evening from a week in the Yellowstone area. The weather was unseasonably warm with the exception of Sunday which was in the 50's. We had planned to fish Lamar Valley but with the recent storms the area was perty blown. Toward the end of the week I had heard Lamar picked back up. First day we headed on the Maddy between Quake and Hebgen. The fishing from what I had heard was kinda slow for the area. I took the toon into the inlet of Quake and did perty well strippin streamers and chrono's. Best catch was a nice rainbow in the 18" area. Second day we hit the $3 area and did perty well throwing a small/small combo beatis/zebra #20's. Landed 4 in about 2-3hrs best being a colorful brown around 18". We had watched an Osprey slam down in this nice hole and carry a couple fish away on 2 seperate passes. I crossed over to the other side where he had picked these fish out and started tossing nymphs. I figured if a damn bird could land one why not me. I did fool one to take my fly and you guessed it, the biggest of the trip in the 20-22" range was lost. Thats what I get for tryin to underline on the Madison. Im sure that Osprey is still bustin a gut over that one. 3rd day my buddy from SL came down that evening and we fished the $3 once more. Using the same small/small combo and with the weather being crappy had the best quality catch day of the trip. Double digits with 3 being in the 18-20" range one fooled on top using a mattled cranefly pattern. Beatis were hatching early then midges throughout the day. The craneflys were blown on the water by winds. The next few days we concentrated our fishing inside the park. Fishing was good early and caddis were hatching on the Firehole late evening. The last day we had ventured to this off the beaten path spot near the Junction past West. Seemed like the FFman were concentrating on fishing the Maddy and parts of the Firehole. We drove past a few spots and seen nada rising but in this spot above were rivers merge there were no people and fish rising for caddis all over. It was a beautiful backdrop of cliffs, waterfalls, and nice deep pools. We fooled some nice trout in the few hours we were there nothing really of size maybe 14" at the most but on a 3wt its fun none the less. Best day of the trip by far was saved for the last day.

could've been worse jerry. you could've been here with me. although the dallas cowboy cheerleaders (some) are here tonight, saw them earlier, but since they are cheerleaders of the enemy i am not going to their show tonight. i'll be really upset if it was a xxx show for the troops.

Fished for two days this last weekend. It was fairly stormy... rain/hail on the river and snow at the cabin on Sunday night.. Fished the Madison on the first day and did a float the Jefferson on the second. The float on the Jefferson was a real treat, I had never fished it before. The browns are not up out of Hebgen yet... i did manage to pick up a nice fish each day, a brown and a rainbow, in the 18" - 19" range on streamers. I'll be heading back up in a couple of weeks, time allowing.
