Hey,
This weekend I am going to a family reunion near Firth Idaho. I have been told that there is access to the Snake near there. I've never fished the Snake and would like to try. Has anyone here fished in this area? Can you recommend any flies or flyshops around. Or should I not even bother? Does anyone know where Firth is?
Thanks for any help.

Fished that stretch a number of times out of a jet boat: we pull to shore and fish from the gravel bars. I can't remember if I have ever seen a nose taking dries on that stretch, so plan on nymphing, or better yet, toss some streamers. Water can be fast and deep so take a sinking line (or sink tip) if you have them. My nephew caught a huge cutt sinking a worm baited marshmellow: those fish down there do like flesh.

Floated it many times. as said it is a streamer stretch. Water levels and temps now will dictate really how the fishing is. Make sure you pound those rock banks and let it get down along them. I guess I didn't read if you were hiking or floating. There is a bike path/walking path (paved ) along much of it.
Floating is the way to go though. I have and ex-guide brother that lives right near there now and if yiou needed more info I probably could dig up put in and take out spots if you wanted.

Around Firth and Shelly there is uncounted streets that'll take you down to the river. They're right. Streamers will get you what you want. Last year my nephew Jake (by marriage)and Joni decided to go fishing there one evening (Shelly). He takes his truck, and proceeds to drive thru the river to a gravel bar. The current picks up the truck and Joni starts to question his IQ about that time. They float down the river about 50 feet and Jake calmly keeps his foot on the gas and then hits the gravel bar. They get out and fish for a while. When they left he just pointed his truck downstream and gunned it.
Jake was born and grew up in Rigby, which could explain a lot.

Jake was born and grew up in Rigby, which could explain a lot. I saw that attempted at Little Hole once about 15 years ago. He didn't exactly pull it off. It was quite funny seeing a couple of rednecks swimming for their lives. But what was priceless; the look on the drivers face as his decked out big ass truck bobbed and crunched down the river until it finally came to a stuck stop.
