Hi everyone. I've been wanting to come up to UT to fish and finally have a chance this August. I am flying in August 1st to Salt Lake City and have about 3 days to fish on the Provo. Would you guys mind answering some questions for me?

I am renting a car and plan to fish 2 or so days on my own and get a guide for one day.

1.Do you have guide recommendations? My friend has used fishwest outfitters before so I guess I'll use them unless someone has good reasons not to....

2. Can someone provide me with specific spots to go to? I will have a compact rental car. Are there easily accessible public spots (or perhaps a secret or cool spot someone would be willing to tell me?) Do I need to buy maps ahead of times or are spots really easy to see? In TX, landowners hate you and will chase you off with guns. Is this the case in UT?

3. How cold is the water? I love fishing with a 3 wt...is that too light? In TX, freshwater guides say 5 wt also, but I find 3 wts to be no prob.

4. Is it nymphing or dry fly fishing in August?

5. what's a good fly shop to visit?

6. Who wants to meet up for fishing? I will be fishing during the day and skipping classes (oops hahha).

thanks

The Provo River? Why??? lots nicer places to fish than that in Utah.

What he said. I was there for my first trip last week and fished the Provo one day and streams the next two days. Just say no to the Provo!

Thanks again Lonnie and Chris.

Tim - that was a good report. UT looks great. I'm getting excited.

Lonnie - do you offer guide services? If so, what is your fee?

Does anyone know of guides that guide off smaller streams?

I like how Tim went out to the backcountry parts. In TX, the only spots I fish in freshwater are shallow clear waters I find off the main rivers etc. I love that type of fishing.

Thanks

texasfly,
I'm no guide but I will give you the same deal I gave Headfirst. If I can swing your dates it will be on me, because I'm a Texas boy. Send me an email on dates you plan to fish and I will send you a possible itinerary to fit your needs.
Peace,
Chris

That's a joke right? Maybe if you were skiing we could work something out..... :)

Seriously, I don't think you'd WANT me to "guide" you....
