I would like to hear what you guys and gals that Lumbar/fanny packs do to carry a net. I stopped carrying my net when I stopped wearing the vest. And I don't need any advice from you guys that never use a net. I ended uo with a LDR yesterday and and my unbarbed hook kept part of the fish's mouth. I'd just like to have a net for the times that it would be better for the fish to be landed in a net. Any suggestions?

Had the same issue and have tried
1. Leaving net bankside at where I was positioned.
Result: Fish dont want to swim toward your net bankside... go figure
2. Tucking net between fanny pack and back
Result: Net really doesnt stay put and causes weird jabbing sensation in the lower lumbar region L-2 - L-4.
3. Hanging net from fanny
Result: Worked the best but fanny did not stay on very well hence became anklepack and thats a no go when wading rivers
4. Fish with a buddy who carries lots of goodies, camera, lots of flys, extra rods, reels, and net.
Result: Hey buddy can ya net this dink for me? Thanks Mike
I opted for #4
If you are wearing waders i wonder if attaching it to the wader belt would work?

You should be able to jimmy rig somthing using your compression straps and a carabiner. I had a net once and I was able to keep it secure and out of the way on my pack.

Small English style folding net. Velcroed in the coat straps

Cabelas has a net retractor for 1.99 right now. I attach it to the back strap on my waders (the strap that connects the two straps that go over your shoulders) with the little slip on clip type thing. I then use a carabiner and attach my net to the main part of the retractable thing so that the net won't pull the cord out just because of bouncing and weight. That way when I need to use my net I undo a carabiner and pull my net. If I drop it the retractable metal cable catches it. If a friend needs to net a fish I pull it off my back and toss it to them. Hope that makes a little sense.

Buy a Willie J bamboo net. It has a hook on the handle to attach to your belt.

I have one of those nylon keychains that you get at gas stations that clip together in the middle. Works well enough.

Magnetic net keeper. Attatch one end to the loop on the back of the fishing shirt. the other to the net. Rides on your back. Most fishing shirts have a loop like your vest.

Jam it between your pack and back. It's not too bad.

I've done the "jam it between your back and the pack" thing and it worked OK. I need to get a smaller net. I always liked the longer handled, wider opening nets but I should get the most compact one I can find for this purpose I guess.
Never considered hanging it from the shirt. I don't think the "fly fishing" shirts I own have a D-ring on the back but they may and that's not a bad idea, and it might give me an excuse to buy some new shirts.
I like Cort's idea about attaching it to the straps on the waders, but I don't plan on donning waders until after labor day, so that kind of defeats the purpose of "going light".
Good suggestions, thanks.

There are two straps on the front of mine i just pull them over it and buckle it up. Then when I need it I can just squeeze those two little things in and easy as that net on!!!!!
Still cant figure out why one would carry a net....
Aside for in a boat or toon/float tube, or if you got legit shot at 20" fish in faaaasst water, nets are useless.

Slip it onto the back of your shirt or wear a lanyard and slip it on to there.

If I had marbles that big, I'd carry a net too.

Well, since you only fish with a parachute adams, you probably don't need to carry one.
I realize that to some folks it shows a lack of masculinity or fishing ability or both to carry a net when trout fishing, and for at least 2/3 of the fish I hook, I would totally agree. I come to the conclusion that it is better for the fish in about 1/3 of the situations to be landed in a net. If you do hook a 20 incher in fast water, you don't have much chance without a net, but more importantly, the fish will not be exhausted by the time you even have a shot at landing him.
I've really gone back and forth on using a net and I just feel more comfortable having one handy for when it is truly needed.
