I have a question regarding streamer hooks. I have always tied with the down-eyed hooks as opposed to the straight-eye hooks, and am wondering if there is any significant benefit of using one over the other. If you have any preferences on what style of hookeye you prefer I would love to hear the reasoning behind it. Thanks for your help!!!
Here is an example of each...... http://www.canadianllama.com/cat35_1.htm

It not as much the style of eye but the knot you use. With any hook you want a straight pull. I don’t worry too much on small trout flies but for streamers and steelhead flies I use different knots to get the right set angle. I like the straight eye for by big double Bs and a down eye for the feather wing traditional type.

On streamers like #14 or larger I only buy the down-turned hooks. I get more set hooks and hooks that stay in (especially when the barbs are crimped). I am no expert but if you look at the physics of it, the back of the hook moves downward to help set it into the lip. An up-turned hook would pull away from the point. I also like the action on the downward hook when stripping. Just my opinion.

I wondered if it affected the action at all, but was not sure. Thanks for your input guys.
