Its that time of year again where i get my nephew for 2 weeks. Last year we hit the Vernal area, Green, up into Wyoming thru Star Valley (awesome area thanks Grizz;) and into Jackson. This year i would like to head up thru Idaho, Henrys area, West Jelly Jelly (getting rooms at the Ol Faithful inn comped), and into Montanya. Shout out some fishing suggestions if ya can in the areas mentioned. Thanks in advance....

The firehole has a lot of roadside access in area between old faithful and the Madison camp ground. Then you have the Madison after that. Beautiful waters

How old is your nephew, and how far do you want to walk? The best fishing is the Park is always out of sight of the road area in the summer months.

Check out this web link for some current fishing conditions.

This summer is way ahead of pace, water is warming up and streams are running lower than normal. The Firehole by August will still be in the 80 degree range, and fishing will be SLOW. Fishing the Firehole at all when its that hot is placing unneeded stress on the fish. Look for cooler water like the Gibbon, and the upper Firehole just above Old Faithful. The faster cooler water will have more oxygen, and attract fish up river. Fish Nez Perce or other tributaries of the Firehole. The Yellowstone River (while crowded,) will be good fishing above the falls up to the lake. Fish in the faster water upstream of Buffalo ford area.

Take heed of the bear warnings. The dry conditions are hard on the bears. They are stressed and searching for food closer and closer to populated areas all over. This summer has seen a lot of bear activity.

Check for bear activity before venturing into any backcountry areas to fish.

I would head over and fish the Madison below Quake Lake. I love that stretch of river. It gets a little crowded, but if you walk a little and get away from the parking areas, you can find some elbow room.

Don't overlook Hebgen Lake either. August might be a little early to hit it, but you never know. Check the reports.

Good Luck, Casta Nova.

Hebgen was actually something i was looking at the other day. Had a buddy of mine i worked with pull 2 nice upper 20-lower 30" fish outta there. The pics he showed me of the fish were layed on his tailgate of his nissan pickup and just bout covered the length. Hes not a FF'r so im assuming he was trolling or som,n. Looks like the Maddy will be in the cards for sure
