Rumblefish

I love Mother Nature. It was about 4-5 years ago when one of my favorite little streams was ruined by fire. I went up after the fire and it was like a rolling muddy, debris filled mess. I walked this stream for several miles and not one fish. I thought for sure I would never see a cutty out of there again. Last weekend I found myself up in the same area and decided to wet a fly.
It was amazing. I caught cutty after cutty and noticed stoneflies everywhere. I also spotted small fry in every slack water. Then I stopped catching fish. I walked down to more several pools and nothing. However I did notice that the stoneflies were no longer hiding under rocks. They were everywhere. Thousands in every pool, on rocks, on sand patches, with no fear of me either.
I took me a minute to realize that the fish at the top of the stream were larger and as I fished down stream the fish were progressively smaller until they were gone. Hence, large numbers of un-eaten brave little stoneflies. It kinda made me smile. I just wanted to share this and I can’t believe how fast that they have repopulated this area.
PS I love that my footprints are the only ones!!!!!
