Over 6 months ago I had a dream to build a brace of stillwater rods primarily designed to hunt trophy pigs. I wanted a tactical look with just the right amount of class. They needed to cast into the wind and have the power to lift large trout. With the help of a very talented builder named Bill Worden, my dream was realized today.

Here are the primary specs:

9'-6" Cobalt Blue Burkheimer 4 Piece Blanks - 6 Weight.

2 Tips/Rod - A Medium Tip for Normal Fishing (average trout), & a 2nd Tip with "Fire" for Sinking Lines, Wind & Double Digit Pigs.

Shamburg Titanium Reel Seats - Custom Engraved.

Double Wells Grip w/Fighting Butt - AAA Select Cork, Copano Swell, Rubberized Cork Ends.

Titanium Framed, Ceramic Insert Fuji Stripping/Line Tamer Guides.

I had to sell a dirt bike to pay for these suckers. They go fishing this Saturday. Kerry Burkheimer says they cast like cannons. I was going to wait to make this post until after Saturday; however, I could not wait to share these with some folks who might appreciate the final product.

I've attached some photos that don't do these rods justice.

These are truely master crafted rods. From the custom make blanks down to custum Ti winding checks. Kerry, Bill, and Mark are master craftsman and all create funtional art. I have enjoyed watching the process of these rods being made from start to finish. You have a great set of custom rods for you and your lucky friends to enjoy.

Post some pictures of those pigs!!!

Jeff, you're bringing a couple of those to you-know-where aren't you? I have to get my hands on one. BTW, I'll trade you my Eagle Claw 6w for one.
Also something pretty nice came in the mail today. Actually a couple things. You know anything about them???????

PS the video blew me away. The dude know how to fish. I've only glanced through the book.

PPS, email me the pictures. I've been lax on getting Mike his money, so my contributor status has dropped down to lacky and I can't get the pictures to come up. I already know what the almost finished pics were, but not the final ones.

I'll have to give your Eagle Claw trade proposal some thought ;0

All four will be making the trip and hopefully being bent deep into the handle. Bill Worden told me these suckers cast very nice with the medium tips and like rocket launchers with the "fire" tips. I'll find out for myself on Saturday. Burkheimer says you can't really get to know his rods lawn casting them - you've got to go fishing.

Glad you like the DVD. The book is good too. You're absolutely right, that guy can flat fish. I'm sorry I did not get them to you sooner. I got busy and simply dropped the ball.

Take care.

just out of curiosity...why four rods? Of course I could answer myself and say why not? But any particular reason for the four count?

I'm wondering too. Especially four of the exact length/weight?
Just curious?

First let me say my rationale for 4 identical rods is excentric at best. Not something I'd win a debate with.

I typically take three fully rigged rods with me on my toon. One with a floating line, one with an intermediate and one with a sinker. I don't like to change spools on the water. Not only does it take too much time, accidents can happen during the change. Many years ago I lost a very nice Hardy reel to the depths of an AZ stillwater while changing reels. From that day forward, I swore it would never happen again.

That explains three - what about the fourth. I don't like odd numbers and my eldest son (who happens to be my best fly fishing partner) wanted one for himself. Like I said, it doesn't make a ton of sense.

BTW - The Quads are fitted with four #2 Lamson Litespeed Hard Alox reels. These reels suck up line like a turbo charged winch.

In case you wondered, I've been married for 32 years to the same great women. She understands my addiction and lets me purchase some high grade crank from time to time.

nice rods! what a 4some! finally a set of fly rods worth getting that second pole permit for! ;)

Kerry does some awesome work, doesn't he? I visited his "manufacturing plant" in washugal this last winter and he runs a class business and is a great guy to listen to. Kerry is one hell of a caster also.

I built an 8134-4 two hander from one of his blanks and it casts like a beaut! My next rod will be another burkie. I got a chance to cast a 5 wt and instantly wanted it.

here's a link to some pics of my burkie.

Hey sounds like a great explanation to me, and what an amazing gift for your son! Very nice looking rods!

Jabronie/Balboa, excellent job on the rods. I really like your Burkheimer.
R.B. Meiser switch rod blanks are very much on my mind at this time. 5/6/7 w.
