Using Epoxy!?

Guys,
I need some help. I need to coat some foam with a hard shell (like a popper) to make it more durrable. I have epoxy but it so thick that it hasn't been working too well for me.

Is there some product out there that you have found that works for this application?

Is there some technique to using epoxy? i.e. can I thin it or something?

I need it for some fishing this weekend so I need some help quick!

p.s. What about coloration...I don't want it to go yellow over time. So, does all epoxy do this?

I think I got it at sportsmen's but I don't remember. Call around, I'm sure somebody's got it. If you can't find it let me know and I'll hook you up (assuming I still have mine). What I have was in a glass jar.

Brent, try some UV Knot-sense. It goes on very evenly and won't harden until you've shaped it to your liking and applied UV light. I use a little UV flashlight thingy. Works like a charm.

How about a little clear nail polish?

put it on a turner and use flexcoat. go thin, it should work fine.

or dip the fly in Soft-ex. Then clear the eye with a feather or something.

with lacquer thinner. it will change its viscosity and so it will be much more runny. It also changes the physical characteristics of the epoxy once it sets, generally the thinned epoxy is weaker.

The longer the cure time the thinner the working product. Try 30, 60 or 90 minute epoxy. Some products have UV inhibitors, which will help prevent yellowing.
