I've done some research on this site and on the internet on some patterns that some of us here mix several colors to create a blend that is unbeatable. First for you guys or girls, what is the process to mix it. Is there a ratio on each color that you mix? I have read that using a coffee grinder will to the trick. Is there another method of mixing the colors if one doesnt have a grinder? After meeting RMAN last Thrusday he showed a few of his patterns and they look killer. Thanks for the help.

Blending is a lot of fun, but not all dubbing will blend. I make a lot of my blends with seal. It’s hard to find and fairly expensive. I also chop up poly yarn for some of my synthetic blends. I use a coffee grinder and it works well. For the really fine synthetics I have use two comb like paddles. I am not sure what they are called but they look like a doggie brush with fine teeth. I use the pinch method, a pinch of this a pinch of that until it looks right. It not to scientific but it works. I start with solid colors and most of my blends have 4 to 6 colors. My seal bugger for the Berry has 6 colors. 6 pinches of dark olive, 5 pinches of lt. olive, 4 pinches of insect green, 3 pinches of fiery brown, 2 pinches of lt. yellow and 1 pinch of king fisher blue. When you create your own blends you can put a twist on any of the standard patterns. It well worth the extra time and money.

You can also use a quart jar (with lid) to blend. Put the fibers you want to blend into the jar, and fill 1/2 way with water. Shake vigorously, then pour the contents through a seive or cheesecloth. The only drawback to this method is that you have to wait for the blend to dry before using.

A coffee grinder doesn't cost all that much, and gives you instant gratification.

Yes pretty much also I have messed around with some of my own mixes.

I have found that a couple of colors work better for me than others.

That spectrumized golden damsel I think I gave some to Jonie and also the black, and the green damsel dubbing that Jeff Brooks Posted a couple of years ago. The orange also I did pretty well with. I mixed up most of them,But I havn"t tried them all. RON

I use a regular blender. I can mix about a pound of dubbing at a time. Buddy Knight turned me on to that one.

I was blending dubbing one night, and my wife came in right as I was putting dog hair in the blender.

We don't use that blender for milkshakes anymore. My ears are still ringing from that experience.
