Anyone ever used chamois to create a leech pattern. I was reading about them somewhere (forget things lately) and the author said they were good because they gave a better leech profile than a bugger/other imitation. Plus you can color them any way you want and still use the same chamois. For those who have used them, do you have to put some marabou over the body to give the swimming impression or is the tail enough to do the trick. I looked in the archives and can't find anything about them but wonder if it is worth it on the Berry. This is what I have been working on lately and I will probably use this for the Berry swap if I can come up with one I like. Comments appreciated. MW

It's a good pattern on many of the fertile leech lakes , especially in So. Idaho.
Had many a good day- nothing but the "shammy". I know guys that tie them out of leather shoe laces- just a San Juan out of leather. I would though stick with the more proven patterns on the Berry unless you just have to experiment.

What about a strip of pork rind? I think it could be colored too. Not sure, that may be considered bait.

A chamios Leech is nothing more than San Juan worm tied with chamios. You fish it much the same also.... dead drift. Tie it with a bead for a killer river/lake pattern.

Holtum used to tie a killer chamois fly.
He did keep the hot pink for a thong for himself though.

Josh took some of my chamois test leeches out to little dell today and had some success. He did say that the tail was munched off by the big cutt he landed so maybe I need a better quality chamois. More testing tomorrow. MW

You could dye your flys with kool-aid or rit after they are tyed. That way there would be no color difference on the edges... But would wetting make them stiff? I guess they would soften again....flip
