I will probably not buy a new one of these, but wait a few years and could get a used one for a reasonable price. Honestly I figured it would be more than this, IMHO really not that much more than the XP's were. Sounds pretty responsive and quick to load. I am stoked to throw one of these.

Yep, that's steep. I think my next project is to build the 490-4 or maybe the 489-4. Much cheaper ($323) than shelling out $650 bones for the finished rod.

Looks like it's time for the wife to get a job...I need one of those.

Well, I was wondering if it would be less money than the TCR, and it is. Still a lot of money.

I just bought a custom made rod from a guy in Boise for $470, 9 foot 5 weight. He will let you pick the reel seat wood, winding color, etc.
Sage rod case is $10 extra.
It still has the same warranty and satisfaction gaurantee.
I should get it tomorrow----can't wait.

To quote Sage rod designer, Jerry Siem, “We wouldn’t have replaced the XP Series if we didn’t believe that we had created something substantially better.”

Come on guys it's "Substantially Better"....

Come on guys it's "Substantially Better"....They're talking about the package and slick ads right?

I can remember when the XP came out and the SP was still in their line up. The SP was selling for over $500 and the XP was a step down in the $400's. But has soon as they discountued the SP the XP step up in the line up as did the price.

I love my XP's, but 2 of my favorite rods to cast are 10+ years old, a Scott G and an Orvis HLS.

It seems that now is the time to buy an XP. For me, I'll stick with my RPL+, seems to catch fish ok. How much of this is marketing hype and how much is real?

FYI, my prediction: the SLT will be replaced next year!

I guess the fact that I have a Zero (list at $6+) and that I have been looking at the G Loomis Streamdance GLX (list at $6+) that the Axis doesn't seem that much. But then again, I don't pay full price on anything LOL

I've fished my buddies Z-axis in a 9 foot 5 wt. It is the sweetest rod I have ever fished. I didn't believe the hype till I tried one. Be careful......to cast this rod is to want one!

I haven't cast one, but from the little I know it is Sage's replacement for the XP so it is a fast action rod. For those that like a fast action rod I imagine you are right. If you had one, would it be your go to rod for dry fly action?

or you could do what i did and just buy the blank for 1/2 that and build it yourself. always the cheaper way to go

Pretty slick sticks. Has no problem punching large mouse patterns through a frickinnukin gale. Catch rate has improved 12.1675%. Heavily weighted streamers you ask? No match for this battle Axe.

5wt does the added work of a 6wt without the bulk.

Pretty slick stick.

...and if you can't build one and want one $200 less built much better than a factory rod I know someone who'll do it for you.

i just picked up a Sage Z-Axis 6wt 10ft for $400.00 with warranty card.

If you look at ebay enough you can pick them up for alittle more than the XP's if you are just patient enough.

Ya, I read about that on the internet the other night....the Chinese have and exact replica...no matter how hard you look, you can barely tell the difference.
