Im about to go out and buy a new 3 weight. My price range is going to be almost certanly under $300. (depends on my next pay check).
ive been looking through cabellas and they seem to have some reasonably priced combos. Any suggestions?

I have a Temple Fork 3 wt. Love the rod and it is a great price, but I wish that I would have got a 4 piece instead, would be easier to backpack with.
Welcome streamdance, TFOs are pretty nice for teh price range, I agree on the 4 pc.

I think the Scott A2 is one of the best values out there. Having said that, I have not cast an A2 3wt so I would cast it first. They run just under $300 I think.

Scott A2 7' 10" 3wt, new this year, wish it would have been out when I was looking for a 3wt. I love my 9ft 4wt A2. Go have Western Rivers get one in you get customer service if you ever have to send it in for warranty. Only thing is its a 2 piece. But for a pack rod 8' 4wt is a better choice IMO. Another thing to consider is action don't go for something that is to fast, makes it hard to load the rod for those short casts, but then again you can always overline it with a DT4.

I have a Sage 390 SP that I love. However, I think the XP would be a sweet deal too.

I just bought a 8' 3" Cabelas LST 3 weight combo for <300 dollars and it is fantastic. I fish all Sage XP's and when my wife mentioned that she would like to learn to fish I picked her up this combo on the cheap since I don't think she will get into the sport, but I have used the rod a couple of times and is sweet. It throws an awesome cast with terrific accuracy and it is a blast when you get a decent fish on the line

thanks for the advise. the TFO"s look nice, but i also wouldent mind a sage...their Launch rod is only $175. Some of the cabella rods look nice but in most of them i cant find a 7'6 model. Does anyone know some good combos outside of cabelas? Also, is the Ross Flycast reel any good?
