I love the Letort Hopper but it can be a pain (for me) to tie.

I also really like a simple parachute hopper w/ a turkey wing. Easy and fast to tie. I tie them on stimi hooks that I bend so the abdomen sinks.

if'n yer interested in the Madam X, why not spice it up to a Turks Tarantula? A little tougher tie, but well worth the effort. Guy Turk revised the Madam X inot a TT years ago for the JH 1 Fly. Well, it won & it is probably most responsible for the rubber X-Leg revolution. You can change the body to what ever color you want (to match the naturals) & can also change the color of the rubber legs (to match the natural) The fly works everwhere, a super summer searching pattern. I personaly prefer a tan or light olive body w/ white legs, but I've tied some recently with red legs & a darker body & they look quite tasty.

The combinations are limitless, just like anything in fishing, there are no rules (except having a f'n smile on your face whilst you're doing it!)

Like Jim says, para-hoppers are the fizzyshizzy.

I've been using these things for several years, they are the only hoppers in my box. They are quick easy and work like a charm. Do I get 2 dozen?

Body color choice often depends on the hoppers that are around (yellow, green, brown, etc.).

I find that fish generally aren't that selective when fishing hoppers. I've had good luck with parachute , dave's, and letort hoppers, was well as Madam X, PMX, Turks, and stimulators. Usually I like a pattern that floats well but not too high in the water.

Had you settled on a dozen, I may have considered. Greed will get you nowhere!

I will take his other six and be very greatful for the gift and humble too. I bout the Creative Fly book at some seminar you were selling them at and now I must confess that tying from a book and pictures is not my strong suit. Can I buy one or two of these twisted hoppers so I can use them as a pattern.

FlySmyth.

PS What is that fly on the cover? It almost looks like the twisted hopper.

FlySmyth

Fly on the cover is a braided stonefly adult. Basically polyproylene woven over a cork foundation. I used to love that tie for hoppers and stoneflies, but have since moved on to easier patterns, such as the twisted foam flies.

Give me a week or two and I'll send you some samples.

Right now, I'm trying to get my stonefly swap flies in the mail!

You must yell out when you hook a trout with a twisted hopper, "Ken Radon is the best hopper fisher in the world!"

Work is for those who don't know how to fly fish!
Have a good trip. I can see it now: Jack talking a hundred miles and hour and Mike catching all the fish. You need to pick your partners better Doc. At least when I go with you, I let you have the best spots and let you catch the better fish! ;)
