Who's carrying it now that Greg Ware's closed up shop. Any one in SLC? Has Brooks set up shop yet?
All replies will be kept confidential.

What's the story on Brook's setting up shop? Also, I was in Smith & Edwards about a month ago, and they still had a few packages of the Troutsmen stuff.

Jeff is setting up a shop? Where?
Alan,
I have some of the dubbing that follows the recipe Jeff posted a few years back. You're more than welcome to a hunk of it. Herb has a crapload of it he mixed in a cement mixer or something. Or, you can get the troutsman stuff at Sportsmans (or Smith & Edwards I guess). It's pretty close to the color, but not exact. I think you'll do fine with anything that's in the neighborhood of the color.
In fact, I think I saw some other similar colors in other brands last time at Sportsman's.
In my opinion, the color is important, but the slim profile of the leech is pretty important as well.

Curtis,
Do you know what the color name of the Troutsmen stuff is? Thanks

You guys looking for a certain color of simi seal dubbing or the Utah Gold designer dub from Troutsmen?

No, this is a custom blend Jeff Brooks came up with a few years ago. I've seen a couple of knock-off's once word got around that the dubbing blend worked fairly well for damsel patterns.
Anyway, I doubt there's anything really magical about Jeff's blend, but it does work and I guess that's all that matters.

There are plenty of other dubbings that work great. I'm a fan of the arizona simi seal myself.
If'n you really want to get some from Herb, here's how to do it. Get him distracted. Convince him that one of your secret bass flies is worth $4. Trade said bass fly for a clump of the dubbing. You know, that stuff really piles up when you mix it in a cement mixer.

I also have the recipe. Once you mix it you have a lifetime supply.

Didn't you get some from Rman last year?
Thanks for the replies guys. I can picture Herb standing next to a mixer, shoveling in dubbing after dubbing.
And I don't think Jeff is opening a dubbing shop.
Sign in front of store-
"All spectrimized leech dubbing, all the time...."

That sounds like a real winner, especially since the dubbing is responsible for multiple 100 fish days. (sorry, Curtis, couldn't resist).
Where is ole Jeff anyway? I haven't heard a peep out of him in years. He's like a rock star now that his "spectrumized" dubbing went gold.
But, I agree, the best way to get some is to leech it off someone else. Why buy some when Herb has so much already?
Herb rocks. I saw him on TV.

Yeah, I actually began to chum with the dubbing. 100 fish days are a thing of the past. We're talking 200 now....
I haven't heard from Jeff in quite a while either. Herb talked to him a few weeks ago, but I guess he's still fishing...

The Semi Seal dubbing is a great alternative for a spectrumized dubbing mix....you can even spice it up a little with some additional flash. It's good stuff.

I'd say make some spectrumized dubbing up.
But also buy the simi seal. They are both wonderful dubbings. Although the CBS blood leach dubbing is the best for stillwater flies in my opinion.
