I'm taking a group of 12-13 year old scouts to Camp Steiner next week. I have a few that have expressed interest in trying fly fishing. Most of the boys have little fishing experience and none with a fly rod. I was thinking fly and bubble for some and fly casting for others. Since this will be my first trip in to the Uinta mountains I need some help with fly selections this time of year. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. email through the site.

Thanks
Mike

Ah, Camp Steiner. I have good memories of CS....been there 3 times as a Scout. Fly Fishing on the lake would be tough....not much room for a back cast, but fishing with a fly and a bubble would work great. I'd make sure you had some big bushy dry flies, renegades, small bh leeches and buggers, orange or green ashers, parachute adams, etc. Black ants are always good producers in the Uintas as well. Are you staying in the half cabins or tents? Be sure to check out the ice caves. There's also a small lake up over the ridge...I think it's called lofty lake.....cutthroats I believe. Check a map and make an afternoon/evening trip out of it.
