Has anyone used or know where to get it. It's kind of a floss from what I understand. Nick, Jason ever hear of it?

I hear that its available from Hareline. However it is not in any of their catalogs that we have. I have tried to get it before but couldn't find any.

Alan,

Frostbite is a woven (single strand) mylar. It is available in lots of colors. Most use it for chronomid patterns. I have several spools, but can't remember where I ordered it. I think it came from Hareline, but don't remember for sure.

I found it to be OK stuff, but nothing to write home about. I haven't caught any more fish using it than I have using thread bodies....

Fun to try though.....

I just supplement frostbite with CDC or white antron. I assume your tying up some Frostbite midge patterns for stillwater....correct? Chan's frostbite pattern is a good stillwater and river midge pattern. Good stuff. I don't think I've ever seen or used the real frostbite material.

Yes you guys are right. Chans patterns for stillwater. Thanks for the info. I tried to google it and didn't have much luck. Thread works for us, so we'll stick wit tit.

So is the frostbite material used to tie the body or is it the gills? I'm confused. For some reason I thought the gills were tied with frostbite. I guess I had it backwards all this time. I just got my Fly Tyer mag yesterday and it had a whole article on Chan. Good stuff.

I haven't seen or used Frostbite, and I can't seem to find who the distributor is. Glad I could help.

Yeah, I saw that one too -- good article. I'm sure it's a nice material, but then like Lance says, I don't think there's anything magical about it. Just look at the variety of materials he uses for his other patterns.
