I need some directions!. I'm going to Pocatello this weekend and want to do some fishing fairly close to town. I know Cardiac has been to places out there but any advice would be great.

The Port Neuf if you are looking at being on a stream. I don't know how long you have --- there are afew good lakes up there if you are taking a float tube. Hawkins- 24 mile - Lava Hotsprings will put you where the surrounding area gives you a few options.

Baetis,

The recommendations from Crosby are great, if you have some time there are some options on the Fort Hall indian reservation as well as the Snake River just up 1-15 in the Firth/Shelley area.

Most rivers around Pocatello do not open till memorial day. If you want some phenominal fishing..... On the third weekend of May (the 18th) this year the Fort Hall bottoms open up. Fishing permits are $25.00 a day $125.00 a season, catch and release only. There are several major spring creeks that comes into the snake near where the portneuf and the snake dump into the rersevoir. It is kind of a locals secret but there are a lot of big pigs in that water. Talk to one of the fly shops in Pocatello for more info.
