I fished Strawberry through the ice again this past Sunday. Since I am banned from discussing the details of the trip by the moderator, I would like to discuss the disturbing snowpack totals around the state.
Contrary to what you might hear from Mitt Romney or Mark Eubank, our snow totals are not anywhere near what they should be. Strawberry for instance has not seen any significant snowfall in over three weeks. The majority of the snow pack report stations around the state are less than normal. I believe the Uintas as a whole are running about 94% of normal. But most disturbing is southern Utah and in particular the Boulder Mountains. The Donkey Reservoir station is only reporting 73% of normal. And the Widtsoe station at Widtsoe peak in the southwestern part of the Boulders is only reporting 49% of normal. I realize there is alot of winter left, but I am starting to get a little nervous. We should realistically be about 175% of normal because of the catching up we have to do.

Yeah, but like you said there is still a lot of winter left with traditionaly the best part yet to come. We can only hope. I still have November's snow on my lawn. That's what happens when you live in Utah's deepfreezer.

Minivan, I have to agree. The last numbers I saw as of last week showed Extreem Northern Utah as slightly over 100%, The Uinta's and Strawberry Area at about 94%, and it got worse the farther south you go. Unfortunately when there are a couple of big storms like we have had, everyone tends to think we are out of the woods with the water situation, which we are not.

I am sorry to hear the dismal news as I thought Utah might be getting over the drought weather pattern it has had the past three years.
It is true that about the 2nd to 3rd week in Jan. we start getting repeated snow storms that last until Mar, and we have gotten more then normal wet stuff the last part of fall and early winter.
I just hope this new wet pattern continues for the rest of the year. We need it!
