The hatch was steady all day. Lots of fish caught on emergers, dries, streamers. After all was said and done, we decided to head home back to Provo. We grabbed a bite to eat in Roosevelt when suddenly I realized that the dam was closed at 10:00. We all looked at our watches and saw that it was approaching 9:00. We were in trouble!!! I called the Wasatch County Sheriffs Office to make 100% certain that the dam was closed and they did confirm that it was going to close last night. On the trip home we had a few laughs about it and found a shortcut that would decrease our travel time by 30 minutes if we headed south on 191 from Duchesne and then north on 6 from Helper. So it turned out that we left Little Hole yesterday at 6:38 and returned home at midnight. What I didn't tell my buddies was that this was the third time I had to take the detour around the dam in a week. The first time was my fault because I had fished streamers on a river in the duchesne area until 9:30 one night not realizing that the dam was closed. The second time was my wifes fault. We had visited a friend of hers in Heber. While I tied flies with her friends husband I told her that we needed to leave a little early to make it across the dam in time. She said we would be fine that it wasnt closed that particular night. On the way home we didnt see traffic in either direction. My blood started to boil and just as the construction guy named Bucky(he comes into the shop every once in a while) set out the last gate, we pulled up.....literally seconds away from getting home at a decent time. To make a long story short I have taken the detour route three times in the past week. Does anyone else share the same frustration and stupidity?

You must know. Remember that one time we went to Salem Pond and you forgot your extra sharp treble hooks for your powerbait? Man that was stupid!! J/K

I guess if you realize you are screwed before you get to Duschene, it may be sixes to go the way you did, but I would suggest next time that happens to take 40 all the way to 80 and go Parleys canyon. It may be further but it's got to be faster than Duschene to Helper to Utah County, even if you are on the south end of Utah County, no?

Also, now that some snow is melting, if you ever get stuck in Heber, you can take the Park Road up to Cascade springs from Midway, then get over to Sundance from there. Not sure if that's open yet but it would be much faster than going around either way.

I will consider that the next time my fishing travels take me out of wasatch county. Have we ever met on the river?
