Stop at the cheese factory for some fresh, salty curd. Mmmmmm!

Might try a hopper dry. If the Salt isn't fishing real well, you could try the Greys or even drive a little to the South Fork of the Snake below Palisades.

Yes, I would pass on the Salt and hit the South Fork of the Snake, the Teton River or the Snake above Jackson.

Hookjaw,

I agree with Indylab, skip the Salt and hit the South Fork. There also some nice little streams in the Swan Valley area that are worthwhile as well, but don't skip out on the cheese factory.

I go up on the Greys river every Aug. with my buddy, we go up and camp for 3-4 days and have a blast. This will be my 3rd year going. He has been up since he can remember. We go up high not far from where the river originates and usually do pretty dang good. We are real successful with para-hoppers and other terrestrials, I did pretty good last year on BHPT trailed by a Red Brassie. But a guy I work with usually goes to the Salt River around the Afton area every summer and he does pretty good from what I understand.

Do not pass up on the salt. I have been fishing there since I was 10 yrs old. The fishing is great and can be tough, but that is what I like about it. I've been there when I have landed browns, rainbows, cutts, and brookies all in less than an hour. My mon is from Afton and I spent a lot of time on that river. We used to own quite a few miles of the river. I have my best luck on a shroeders parachute hopper with a hares ear dropper. I will fish this for the most part of the day, but if you can drag a streamer down into one of those big holes you will have a chance at a 10+ pound brown. I will be there in August for a family reunion and will definately put a few days on the Salt.

I agree with Baetis...do not pass up the Salt. If you do, you will be missing out! In my opinion, the Salt is the perfect sized stream with good numbers of fish and the chance at some big browns.

My brother lives in Afton, I fish it as much as possible; terrestrials, and common nymphs, have always worked. Like streamers in the fall. I have never caught large fish below pallisades, float and fish it a couple of times each summer, great float, but the biggest fish I have caught is 18". The Greys is really fun. Crow Creek has some really nice fish in it. Spring Creek has a lot of wild cuts in it, not really big, but lots of beaver dams, and fun structure.
