I went to a well known, nearby, still water fishery and had a one fish day but oh what a fish it was. A 23 inch brown. I just have such a problem fishing for fish glued to the bottom. At about 4 pm I got blown off the water. That makes six hours for that one fish.
Two questions, Is it worth the trip if you catch just one fish?
What's the best way to get them bottom huggers?

1. Did you learn anything ? If so then it was well worth it.
2. What line are you using ?

It's only worth it when you bring a camera.
I never fish w/out one

Of course not. Next time, stay home and wax your carrot collection.

Cary,
You are always so negative in your response. Can't you see that Flysmith was just looking for "positive" re-enforcement to his great feat, prowness and accomplishment. I salute you Flysmith!

you're asking us if it was worth it. We should be asking you: Was it worth it? You tell me? Was it worth it? 23" of brown trout is a ton of fun....

Hey thanks I forgot all about my carrot collection that desperately needs a waxing.
I was using a type V. It was thirty five to fifty feet water. What line should I use. BTW my flies were not weighted. I lost more flies yesterday than in the five previous trips combined.
And yes 23 inches of trout makes the trip worth it. If I learned anything I am to dumb to realize what it was.

I am sure I know where you were fishing. I found big browns and rainbows really close to the shore where the bank is extremely steep. As for fishing out were the water is 30-60 feet. I would suggest staying over the 30 range and using a strike indicator with a 30 leader. This will keep your fly's right in there face.
A perch imm. was slamming them last thursday. I had a few over 20.

10+ hr drive to Ashton ID and back
$75 in gas
$50 for a room at the Super 8
$10 out of state fishing license
Fishing in rain/snow/wind
1 24" Brown netted on a March Brown pattern....priceless
I'd rather smell skunk than work, cause work smells pretty damn bad. Don't play the numbers game, of course it was worth it.
