I was going through some old files and came across this from an old news letter. I thought it would be fun to post. It’s a killer fly. I tie and fish them in his memory. This fly produces year round. I fish it as a dropper. The dark olive is the best color in a size 14. Tie some up, you won’t regret it.

The Del-Monty is a fly that was developed by Spinner Fall’s head guide, Monty Howard. Monty designed the fly for guiding on the Provo River. The pattern is effective year-around and is Monty’s go- to fly. The Del-Monty is easy to tie, with a minimal amount of steps. Monty ties the pattern in dark olive, chartreuse, yellow, and brown, and dubs the thorax in tan and insect green. The pattern is tied on a standard scud/pupa hook sizes 10 to 18. Monty uses a silver bead sized to match the hook. The tail is Pheasant Tail fibers tied short. The body is made out of V-Rib and the thorax is dubbed rabbit.

Step 1: Attach bead to hook
Step 2: Start thread at mid point on hook shank. Secure pheasant tail fiber, ending above bar.
Step 3: Secure V-Rib at tail and wrap thread forward to bead. The V-Rib and tail material needs to be tied down the length of the hook to the bead.
Step 4: Wrap body with V-Rib. Each turn of V-Rib should touch, leaving no gaps.
Step 5: Dub Thorax.

Yes. I would just use small v-rib on the small hooks.
