I am working on tying this pattern and am wondering what kind of material y'all use for the body.
Thanks

Here's the link: http://www.utahonthefly.com/flytying/flyarchive/olivesrendpty.htm
I have also tied it with wire and deer hair.
The original was tied with strands of twisted wool to help it sink.

I used to use twisted antron, but then ended up just using plain ol' thread. They are nice little patterns.

With a user name like yours, $3, I'm sure you are aware of the $3 Bridge Serendipity?!?
You might find a picture in the Blue Ribbon Flies Catalog. Great fly. Thread body. Easy to tie. Very effective!

z-lon, antron, darlon, micro tubing, v-rib, yarn, thread, wire,.......
Use what you want for the body, I think the head is where it's at. I like to spin fine coastal deer hair heads & then trim them into "bullet heads" very effective for the midge application of the dip. I once tied them bigger with a bead head, this was aslo a very effective pattern.
A #20 micro tubing bullett head is deadly on a not so popular big fish theater in WY.

And yes I have seen the 3$ dip, it looks like a regualr with a bead. I am just getting into tying and theis in one of the easiest patterns I have found.

Bag the deer hair and dub a throax behind a bead on some on them.
I use twisted antron. I like Olive the best.
Good fly.

I have used various colors seperately and twisted together of quill...works quite good. Give it a try. make sure you soak the quill at least overnight, after you have nuked it in the microwave for 3min on high power. Then put some flexement over the quill body to prevent cracking in the future.
Good luck.

Or you can just use porcupine guard hairs and only moisten them with saliva. They don't crack, you don't have to soak them, they're naturally tapered and are more resiliant then the regular style stripped hackle quills. Save yourself a lot of headache and plus, they make a better more realistic body, IMO.

Speak only when you are spoken to ROOKIE...
Don't make me pull out the official UOTF fly tying manual again.

Sir, yes, sir!
Permission to quote from the fly tying manual, sir...
Section 42, Paragraph 19: All Serendipities MUST be tied with alley cat scrotum hair dyed either blue, green or lavender.

A little confusing for a new tier guys. You all have given steps for 20 different flies. A Serendipitie is what it is, twisted wool, deer hair head on a scud hook. I would go just a little more sparse than the one in the second post.

Maybe I should have qualified my question with " I already know how to tie it, I just saw multiple materials used for the body on different sites, and was wondering what the preferred was.
Thanks

3$, tie it how you want (ref Grizz's list). There is no rule that says you have to use antron, v-rib, wool, thread or any other material. That's 1/2 the fun...

Thank you. Sorry for the confusion. Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules!

Franz Pott was twisting yarn on a hook creating a segmented body back in the 1920's. He just placed a hair hackle collar on it. He called his a Fizzle.
Which brings up the question: when did fly tiers start putting their names in front of the flies they "created." Seems like all the early tiers gave 'em names, now everybody wants to call it Smith's Green Baetis Emerger, or Johnson's Special. Even the Prince Nymph was called "Brown Fork Tail Nymph" by it's originator Doug Prince.
Lets see. . .where did I place those Fry Humpies?
