Okay this may be a stupid question but here goes anyway....

Can someone tell me why some tying vises have springs wrapped around them? Is this a spare part or is there another purpose???

stick your materials in them to keep them out of the way. Works well if you are tying with longer fibers.

The items that you tie in and are waiting to use, ie...wire, hackle, thread etc... can be placed in the spring to hold them out of the way until you are ready to wrap them.
