View Full Version : Anyone Fished the Feather River?
I'm heading to Chico, CA for a wedding around May 18th, and as far as stream fishing goes it looks like the Feather River is the place to go. Has anyone been there, particularly this time of year?

I graduated from Chico State. Used to fish the feather quite a bit. There are 4 forks to the feather. West Fork, North Fork, Middle Fork, and South Fork.
I fished the west fork the most because it was the closest. The North Fork is the largest and most famous. It also has easy access, Hwy 70 runs along side most of its length. The middle fork was my favorite, less pressure because of harder access, lots of places require a hike. I never really fished the south fork.
I usually had pretty good luck but I am talking early 1970's. Haven't fished them since then. I think they may be in the middle of runoff this time of year if I remember right. There are (were) a couple of really good fly shops in Chico. My recommendation is to give them a call. you can find the phone number on the internet and maybe even an email address. I'm sure they would be happy to help.
Good Luck

One of my friends here at school is a Powell (of the Powell rod family). He grew up on Chico. He mentioned that the House of Powell (if that is still the name of the flyshop, he thinks it may have changed with all of the legal Powell stuff that has happened lately) or Raptor Rods as some of the flyshops you could go to for information. I hope this info isn't outdated. This is just some info you can keep in mind.
Thanks to all for the responses. I'll look up one of the fly shops.
