It was time. Trebor hitch-hiked his way to the mouth of Solitude Canyon. His gear consisted of a small day pack, fishing vest, fly rod and waders. Trebor walked up the canyon and sat down on a bridge. He pulled on his waders, rigged up his fly rod, slipped on his vest and then stepped into the creek. Solitude Creek is brushy and narrow. It is also loaded with wild, native cutthroat trout; Trebors favorite. Trebor waded up the creek making delicate casts and catching trout from every likely spot. As he moved upstream, he disappeared around the corner. He was never heard from again.

Did Trebor get a job at the ski resort a few more miles up the canyon?

My guess is he reached a state of total enlightenment and.... !!!POOF!!!....he spontaneously combusted and returned to that from whence he came.

When a lone fisherman goes "!!!POOF!!!" in the forest, does anyone hear it?

Trebor was never heard from again because in his complete and utter fishing bliss...he became Robert, the enlightened one. Thus Trebor was never heard from again.

OR....

He was eaten by a Bear, made the Bear a little gassy and the POOF you heard was the Bear as he ambled his way up the mountain side.
