It is that time of year again were we have a chance to reflect on goals or challenges that we may have set for ourselves this year. Did you learn a new skill? Fish new water? Catch the species you were targeting or just find the "perfect day?"

For me, my goal was to learn to fish Pineview. That place has always been tough for me and when I would catch fish they would be 6 inch smallies. This past year I finally took some risks and paid my dues and had a good number of productive fishing days on Pineview.

Anyone else out there want to share a success?

I am still married and alive. I also managed to fish a year without a citation.

WOW two 30 inch browns.

I caught my first fish over 26 inches.

I caught my fisrt carp. Them suckers fight.

I caught my first pike.

I broke the 45 fish barrier by only one. Stayed way past when they quit biting (can you say dark-dark-dark) to trying to break the 50 fish barrier.

New Water: Soldier Creek, Yuba, Pelican,

Met a new fishing buddy.

I survived my frist year divorced.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane post.

I made my first trip to the Uinta's north slope. It will not be my last. And I caught my first tiger trout. I sure Hope that will not be my last either. Both goals were found to be better than expected. In 2006 I need to do more dry fly still water fishing from a float tube.

Accomplishments? That's a big 0!

Missed opportunities? Many. Too many to start listing.

Memories? Lots. Can you claim 1 experience to be both the best and worst of the year?

I hate to see 2005 go. I'll hang on to it as long as I can. But I am anxiously awaiting 2006.

I fished less & tied less, but it was a great year for fishing just the same. Met some great people who share the passion / addiction. Witnessed some stellar hook-ups & saw some real nice fish get away.

Slough crik stands out, all the float trips & my first wiper/wipers.

I will remember 2005 for two main reasons:

1) My son getting bent rod, mean fish on sevaral outings with dad--especially our Spring trips to the Green and the Maddy.

2) Not enough days out.

I fished less than the last few years, but was able to go on more overnight trips to some of my favorite destinations.

I too caught some piggies, and lost a few that will keep me going back.

Moment of the year was when I had to explain to my buddy that huge brown that was on end of his line wasn't going to fit in my net. Somehow after cursing and praying at the same time I was able to get my paws on the brute (we were in the middle of a large montana river, and getting him to the bank was impossible).

The thought of '06 has my mind going a million miles a second trying to fit everywhere I want to fish on the schedule.

Hope you all had a great year of fishing, and that you get a few more days out of you current licenses in '05.

I have to agree with Royalcutt. This year has had some real memorable fish. That river to the north keeps calling...and yes that brown was a "Brute". I would have to say all in all this year was above average. I am not sure if I will ever get to fish as much as I would like to, but getting out as often as possible keeps me feeling good.

Heres to a great year.

Not enough days out, but enjoyed fishing wipers with Grizz, I think I took one, while watching him yard 'em out like pecker poles.

Mexico was awesome, the Winds was kind this year, and Slough was particularly memorable, for the fish, great company, and the fuzzy mama

year aint over yet...

Did NOT fish the lower provo this year
Tyed more this year than any other year
Did not break my rod this year (knock on wood)
Caught some nice pigs consistantly on a "LiL" still water that shall remain nameless

Got out for my annual fishing trip after 14 months out of water. Tried some new waters and had some disappointments and some very pleasant surprises. Hopefully '04 and '05 were the end of the one outing years. Had many good laughs and vicarious fishing adventures through the membership of UTOF.

I can't say I had anything extremely memorable as far as fishing goes.....my Slough trip was pretty cool though. I think the big event of the year was the birth of my little girl. Can't top that.

I did however fish three new waters in Utah this year but failed to hit many of my regular waters....including the Green, Henry's Fork, and a bunch of unnamed waters in Utah. I anticipate 2006 to be a little better. The famed uotfly Green River and Henry's Fork trip are on tap for 2006. Jaymorr and I have vowed to plan a memorable Henry's Fork trip this year and relive some old memories from prior trips.

Had FlyDOC show me how to catch wipers. He still gets 4 or 5 to my one.

Wandered around fishing alone on many small creeks.

Fished the Middle Provo with my nephew at his asking, which was neat.

Went on a 50 mile bike tour with my two sons.

Found out that while I think fly fishing is one of the best activities in the world. . . there are other things in life that have lots more meaning.

Had a great trip to the green this spring with Bob and Steve Haynes. Had a great 3 week trip to Canada. Fished many wonderful rivers full of nice west slope Cut's. Highlight was my daughter joining me for the middle week where we went through Baniff and Jasper. Great fishing moment was in Jasper on a unnamed river when I had hooked into a white fish who was putting up a great fight. Then he turned and ran right at me and through my legs. I thought what the heck and then saw a (guess here on length, but he was a big fella) 36" bull trout turn away from chasing the white fish about 2 feet from me. Great time up on the Duchesne this fall with Steve Haynes, GJ, Griss, Slayer etc. GJ has the best steak for a cook out I ever did eat.

Probably the highlights were:

Getting to be with my son almost as much as when he was young and needed a taxi service.
Getting better at not snagging trees and such.
Finally having breatheables instead of sausage tubes.
Catching a ton on Strawberry on a 3wt. and not breaking it.
Learning more about fly-tying.
Finding my own "secret" place where I can always have success.
Recognizing that the lower Provo and I are not friends... and not caring.
Not caring that I got skunked cause I just had fun.

Probably lots of other things but those are the ones I can think of now. MW

-Bought a pontoon boat.

Met and fished with some cool new fellers...
Bugeye, Jester, Blender, Grizz, Slayer, et al.
Fished with some of the cool same 'ol same 'ol
Wifey, Garff, Bob, Bryan
Fished these new waters with the biggest fish EVER:
(EDITED) Oh yeah, can't tell ya'...
Special mention to:
- Bugeye's ten favorite places to tell no one about.
- Jester's "Terra Privato" invitations (to be considered you must provide the green jello and Mtn. Dew)
Fished and continue to fish more days than ever which means I am also puffing more grits than usual.
Didn't piss my wife off.
Learned a new word: "SENSITACHO"

Expanded my fishing circle of trust. (You know who you are) Thanks for a great year!

Highlights:

Found some great new "holy water", with unspoiled, uneducated hogs.

Discovered for myself the "other" Rio Verde. (It rules.)

Survived drowning in the South Fk. (three times no less, IN ONE DAY, kinda puts it all in perspective IMHO. Too bad no one got any photos.)

Survived my first ever PodCast interview. (IMHO)

Merged my two biggest passions (photography and fishing) into one day AND met a great writer in the process. Thanks Macauley!

Found out where the headwaters of the WFA actually are, up someone's a$$! (and running muddy to this day ;-O). But it's all good!

A great 2006 to every one of you!
