Well i just got back Recently after fishing a Good Bristol bay River for 6 days.I never caught one rainbow over 30 but i did catch 4 around 27 to 29 inches and all were fat and full of piss and vinegar so they fought like possessed fish. My dad caught the biggest fish of the trip, a 34 inch 13 to 14 pound hog. Most of our fish were caught wading from shore but the big one and a few others were caught from drifting in our or our guides jet boat. Because of all the big fish we caught, the countless 18 to 24 inch bows and the chance to spend worry free days with my dad i would say it was a very successfull trip.

This is the big one my dad caught, it fought so hard and long it was really tired so we had to release it quick which explains the crappy pic but no pic is worth hurting or killing such a magnificant fish!

This fish was around 29 inches and 9.5 to 10 pounds, this fish had some serious thickness to his back

Great pics. Those are definitely some pigs! It's rare to catch bows that big in Utah....but it's not unheard of. Alaska rules!

Kodiak,
I have been wanting/planning on going to Alaska, around what time of the year is it best for big bows and other trout grayling and such. I am not really wanting to go for salmon but bows and char....

Smart choice jason b. I love my salmon but big bows and char are my favorite! While you can catch big bows and char all summer the best time is the fall when they are gorging on eggs and flesh. I would say early September is the best time.

I worked in the Bristol Bay area for a summer. What river were you on? The Alagnak or Nushigag or Illiamna?

Some of those fish look like you should strap a saddle on them and ride them. Those go beyond hog's. Those are big horses. I will bet that they put up a heck of a fight and may have even "horsed" you around some. Big, Fat, Healthy, looking fish with lots of fight in them. The grin on your face says it all.
