Usually water resistant means that the circuit boards have been coated with plastic. This is to protect against condensation that can develop in changes in climatic conditions, or when you go from indoors to outdoors, or vice versa.
Water proof means that the interior has been sealed with o-rings and will not allow water into the interior. I know that Fuji makes a water-proof camera, called the Fuji Big Job. As for the Leica--the sucker probably costs $5,000.00 to $10,000.00! I expect that it IS a great camera--Leicas always have been.

Swim, that's what I seem to do a lot of. I have a digital camera that I wouldn't dare take to the river unless I could somehow affix an Orvis label to it so it would have an "Unconditional" warranty. How about it? ;o)

well under a $1,000.
$635
It is not waterproof, very few cameras are waterproof. Big dollars are required to get a real waterproof camera.
Orvis sells a waterproof camera bag that holds camera and other things. It rides on your waist and is out of the way.
It is worth looking in to.
