Was fishing an unnamed stream between two unnamed larger bodies of water weekend before last. I figured there would be plenty of twinkies around, because I had been slamming them in a couple little streams, mostly on unnamed hopper pattern. I drove along to find a new place and wasn't planning on fishing this spot but liked the look of it, walked up to the stream, which is pretty small- 8 ft across- walked right to an okay looking pool and figured I would throw my hopper/dropper out to start there. First cast I have a twinkie hit it and I see a large fish move up through the hole. I think to myself " that is a pretty nice fish for such a average hole on such a small stream." Next cast he lazily slurps in my hopper, and tests my 7' 3 wt Fenwick that I bought on ebay and built. Landed a nice, legitimate (marks on my rod) 18" and fat brown. Thought about running the 20 m back to the truck for the camera ( carrying it with you is just bad luck) but didn't want to bother. Just released him. It was the best fish I have caught on that rod since I built it. (Altough I had a bigger one hooked on it once on the Provo, a few years ago while my bro in law uses my 5 wt.) Caught a bunch more 10-12 inchers but my trip was made on the second cast.
