Greys River Trip

Just a reminder that the Cache Anglers will be up on the Greys River this weekend. Main contingent will be camped in the FS campground 35 miles upstream from Alpine. There will be an informal pot luck on Saturday evening. Hope to see some of you there!

While you're up there look for old man Hull. He used to run sheep up in that area back in the late 1800's. He also fly fished, mostly wets, down and across. Anyway, he had a friend that would bring him supplies at the end of each month. His friend went up with supplies and couldn't find him. His dog and horse were still by the sheep camp. The friend thought he might have went for a walk or hike so he spent the night. Old man Hull never came back.

The friend went back to town and organized a search party. They never found him. No sign at all. Vanished! Each weekend, towns folk would go up to look for him but always, nothing.

Over the last hundred years. Several different people have claimed to see a lone man in a long coat and wide-brimmed hat standing in the shadows, just off of some of the trails in the area. The man never says anything, and if they approach him, he slips over the hill, or into the trees and adumbration.

Several fly fishers who have stayed out till dusk, claim to have stumbled upon a lone fly fisher in the fading light of evening. When they get closer to him or try to talk to him, he wades silently to the other bank and disappears or slips farther downstream and around the next bend or just seems to dissolve into the pitch.

Watch for him as you are fishing into dark or as you stumble back to camp alone, along the river trails at nightfall.
