i was fishing at daniels with a friend i had made there a couple of days before and so we started fishing together in the afternoon. the wind was howling and so the only thing i could think of was to go accross the lake and get up against the steep mountain drop off and try to get some shelter. we paddled over and started fishing. i was fishing a size 12 copperjohn, under a strike indicator set at about 13 feet. i got into fish right away and of course was having a realy nice time trying to land fish on an indicator with 13 feet of leader and a 9 1/2 foot fly rod. the one thing i was doing best was entertaining my new friend. seemed like i was getting more and more iritated and finaly i said i need to be taller. well in a kick boat (pontoon boat) how are you going to do that. so i lifted myself up and put my knees into the seat and stood up on my knees. felling very proud of myself i said to my buddy, hea, nice idea. he said whatever you do dont fall into the water and i said smugly, not a chance. i keep hooking fish and then hooked a fish that after setting the hook just bolted twards me so i was stripping as fast as i could and this fish came flying out of the water and hit me square in the center of my chest. fish was around 18 inches and i thought i was going over for sure. fish fell straight down inbetween my seat and tube and i thought my friend was going to fall out of his pontoon. i can still hear him laughing now as i am writing this post and he said if we had video of it we could make some money. while he is laughing and going crazy i am trying to figure out how to get my rod down inbetween the hole the fish went into between my seat and pontoon. i turned my rod tip down in followed the line with my rod and put my hand under the seat and felt around for the tip or end of the rod. this seemed to look even funnier to my friend but is was very serious and not trying to lose my sage xp. i got the last laugh by landing the fish. has anyone out there ever had a fish jump out of the water and hit you when you were fishing in your tube or pontoon?

This happens to me on a regular basis... JK.

Sounds like fun. May I suggest the sliding corkies that Dennis is selling? They slide on your leader when you set the hook.

That's awesome! I could picture the whole scene. I have ducked cause I thought a fish was going to get me but didn't quite make it to me. Reminds me of a day duck hunting near Vernal. I shot a greenhead and my brother in law was sitting about 15 feet away on the ground. I watched as the bird folded and started to fall. I took a glance at where my bro was sitting and said you better move. He laughed and looked up and rolled away just as the duck hit the ground like a sack o sh_t. I think it would have knocked him unconciuos if he hadn't moved.

Two years ago while fishing Otter Creek for the first time my wife & I were having a great time catching some nice size rainbows. I hooked one & it jumped several times . I got it in closely & it jumped again & hit me squarely in the chest. It I hadn't had a back to the seat on the 'toon I would have fallen over backwards as it was such a shock. The fish dropped onto the stripping apron & then into the water. My line that was tight before the jump was now hopelessly wrapped around my rod & I tried to get the rod down so that I could get the line untangled & still hold the fish, but the fish broke off & made his great escape. I just sat there laughing like a lunatic as it was such a funny thing to have experienced.
