View Full Version : Fremont River
I'm thinking about fishing the Fremont River above Mill Meadow. Anyone know how the flow of the river is or what may be hatching? Thanks in advance for any input.

Check the earlier thread about Forsythe and Mill Meadow Reservoirs. I didn't see any real hatches, but still got strikes on a renegade as well as a parachute adams and an elk hair caddis. I fished the stream this time last year and they were hitting just about everything. My brother and I pulled eight browns out of one hole that day - and that was my first experience fly fishing on a small stream.
My challenge on the upper Fremont is actually getting a fly in the water rather than a bush, tree or rock. Be prepared to do a little walking between castable spots. Usually I get one good cast in before I get hung up on something than necessitates spooking all the fish in order to retrieve my fly. Grrrr.

drw,
Don't know if you will see this before you head out for the weekend. I was just up in the area fishing this afternoon and evening. The upper Fremont is now running high and muddy. I was fishing the lakes with my four year old, so I didn't get to try any flies on the river. I don't think the irrigators are bringing any more water down than they were - the tributaries are just really high, seven mile creek in particular. I'm sure the river could still be fished with nymphs and wooly buggers, but it is a totally different stream than last friday.
Just as a heads up, there was a good hatch of some sort of dipteran - looked like a big, black mosquito with fluffy mouthparts - going on at Forsythe. The tiger trout were eating them up.
Thanks for the heads up. I was just checking one last time before I head out. I'm glad I did. Thanks again.
