Well, I was up north around Ogden yesterday and decided to try and fish for some Wipers in an "un-named" body of water around there that I heard might have Wipers.
So I get to the water, tied on my new "Frito Gizzard Shad" pattern and started to huck it out there.
After a few casts, I had a nice hit. Rain starts to pour a little harder. I move to a different spot and take a few more casts. Just as I'm about ready to call it quits after only 1/2 hour, soaked to the gills, I feel a good tug on my line. I raise the rod and the fight is on. 10 minutes later, I'm still wrestling with this demon-fish that won't quit. After a run to my backing and a good knuckle buster, I finally get it into shallower water. I couldn't believe how big that fish was (easily over 20 inches). Then as I'm getting ready to pick it up, he spits the fly at me and says "No Soup for you!". Then he swims away.
So no picture, but my arms are feeling good and I can wipe Wiper off my list.
(thanks for the tips from people here -- I saw only two other fishermen yesterday)

Hows the neighborhood after the Mudslide in your neck of the woods?
Sounds like the "Demon" got the better of you, but isn't it great to fish in the rain? I love fishing the uinta's in a good toad strangler, makes you feel alive.
when the lightning is crashing all around you, the Pucker factor goes beyond a "10" but it is awesome none the less!!

Why are reports on fish other than trout acceptable?

theres nothing quite like that unmistakable strike of the wiper. Just ask RAW or wildnative or whomever that mask man might be. The thril of victory and the agony of defeet. Only two other people, where did all the giggers go? Maybe the novelty has worn off. Tonight could be the night. I need a fix.

Wait a minute. Did you touch the fish? Chime in everyone. If he didn't touch the fish can he count it?
I had two on that went to my backing last year and never got them in (long distance release) and I didn't count it. I guess if I was reaching for one, I would probably consider it caught.
Congratulations. When you trying it again?

Chill my brutha. If there were 100 bodies of water that hold wipers, I'm sure you wouldn't feel so slighted. Substitute "trout" for "wiper" in the above story and I could have been fishing anywhere.
Anyhoo...sorry to have offended.
RAW it does count!!!

Reports on trout are acceptable -- just not the locations. Read Mike's guidelines. You'll notice I did not say the location. For the uneducated, who's to say I was fishing where you think I went.
My point is that if there were 20 wiper waters around here, I don't think you'd be as worried right?
Anyway, sorry to have riled things up.
And RAW it does COUNT!!

Unfortunately Willard is the only place that has Wipers so if we're to discuss fly fishing for Wipers then I guess we have to mention Willard. I guess the same goes for Tiger Muskie and Pineview. In my opinion large bodies of water (lakes and reservoirs) can't be "hotspotted" because the angler impact is low compared to rivers/streams and smaller "quiet" waters. So when do those Tiger Muskie start biting?

Um... That fish didn't count. I've got to go with RAW on this. If it doesn't come to hand...It doesn't count as a land.
:)
I think you are going to have to get try again.

Tiger muskie in Johnsons Res as well so I guess if your talking about those you could have gone north or south. As far as that wipper counting as caught, I would say it counts to whomever he can convince it counts. That may not be us, but I am sure the story will be told and accepted as a land around many a campfire.
