View Full Version : Fishing the Green in July
I'm planning a three day guided float trip on the Green in mid July.
Any input on the overall quality of the fishing, heat, crowds, patterns (other than terretials, if any) etc.?
Thanks
Mick
Hot, crowded with rafters, and maybe a good time for PMDs. Avoid 4th of july and pioneer day. You'll probably fish dry/dropper combos. EIhter way, it will be a lot of fun.

Good advice by Cary. I always go up there the week inbetween the two holidays. It gets slammed on the 4th and 24th weekends but is sort of slowed down inbetween. I have had a lot of luck with hoppers and Royal Wullfs during that time with a tungsten head zebra hanging off the bend.

What company are you going with? The guides should have all of the flies for you. My favorite combo was a 6-8 paracricket with a black tungsten bead. It will be hot. Most of your fishing will be from the boat, so stay in shorts and sandles. You can bring your waders to fish in the evening/morning, but dont wear them in the boat.
I have found that most of the crowds stay on A. Most of your time will probably be spent on B or C.
I miss doing those trips. They are an absolute riot! Best of luck,

If you are going with a guide and floating the river you shouldn't have to worry about having a good time, as far as the heat goes just watch for a guy fishing on a rock he will heat things up if your guide gets a little to close.

I went last summer and took a nice cutt with a big chernobyl ant. I passed it over him so many times then finally he came and just slurped it off the top. I like it because since it is made of foam it floats in fast water and you never have to worry about it drowning. I hooked up with a very nice brown trailing a nymph off it as well. Darn thing broke me off though. Had a few others look at the big bug as well. Its worth a try. Have fun, I will be back this summer as well sometime. There are so many things you can try there so just experiment and have fun.

Mick forget the "A" section and hit the "B" every day. All you'll find on the "A" are church groups and Boy Scouts high on Dr. Pepper running through your water and having water fights. If you have the cash spring for an over night or 2 on the "B". The guide will take care of food and the camp and all you need to do is fish.
