View Full Version : Pimp my Pontoon...
Curtis Fry

I'm ready to mount the transducer for my fish finder to the pontoon and was also hoping to add some other little accessories & modifications at the same time while I'm in the modification mode.
Anyone have any good accessory/modification add-on ideas? Post some pics if you can. Let's see who has pimped their ride the most...
There was this thread a while back: http://www.utahonthefly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10225&highlight=pontoon+accessories
But I'm looking more for modifications than just buying accessories.

glueing the pink furry carpet to my pontoon seat. I also think my pink suit with the wide collar and wide brimmed white hat would stand out at the lake!

It wouldn't be a properly pimped pontoon without a minimum of two X-Boxes and four LCD screens. And to make the pimping specific to a fishing rig you should add a full fly-tying station for those "on-the-water" emergencies.

"Toon" being netspeak for Triton!

3 fishfinders, 1 GPS, rod storage holds 12 sticks, stripping apron has over 100 sq.ft. and one helluva big oar on the back.
I have evolved - if not to a higher plane, then definitely to a faster one.

That's a nice little kickboat. Are bass really that fast of swimmers?
Hmm...I don't see Scadden anywhere on it!?!?!

One of those big yellow Corona umbrellas might make for a nice ride, although casting ability could possibly become somewhat restricted.
And I've always wanted headlights, but a roll of duct-tape and a pair of 6-cell Maglites is such a serious fashion fau paux.
Oh, and a big-a$$ "Ahh-Ooo-Gaaa" horn.
And an ashtray/stogie-holder like Cardiac.
If done correctly, the completed project is very likely to resemble Rodney Dangerfield's golf bag from Caddyshack.
Soon or later, someone's gonna figure out how to get Laz-E-Boy involved in seat design (pontoon recliners - another million dollar brainstorm... wasted.).

You know I'm really tempted to do that. That would be the ultimate stillwater craft.
I can also install some hydraulics to make the boat jump up and down in the water. The furry dice and gaggle will go well too.

those things might end up in my shiny new 'toon w/ the exception of wifey. She'd be interfering with me gaggle.

You should also get spinner wheels for your oars. They are so ghetto they are da bomb!

How about a "mister" for those hot day's. You have the water supply right below you. I could probably even rig one up on my drift boat on top of the hand rails, misting inward.

So since I was supposed to stay close to home today, I spent most of the AM reworking my toon's setup. Switched my finder from the right to the left side (it got in the way of casting on the R side), reworked the transducer setup, mounted 50' of anchor line and a new anchor cleat. I also mounted a cleat to hang the rope I use to hoist my toon up on my garage wall. The coup de' gras is the two speaker that I have that can hook to the Mp3 player. I need to get a waterproof box to put it in before I take it out on the water. I also started teaching my dog to ride with me. What's a ride with out a beeeatch!!!

Nice thread
remember to use the Armor All on those pontoons after a day on the lake.
every good pontoon needs a large boom box
and a cup holder
I saw this one a while back while roaming the DWR site

Brandon mentions ArmorAll on the pontoons, but the stuff I found out that works the best, is '303 Aerospace Protectant'
http://www.303products.com/main.php?infopage=protectant
Spray it on and buff it off with a towel a few minutes later.
Best place I found to buy this stuff is from a guy we used to buy our boats from. Walton Marine -off 9th East and between 2700 So. and 3300 So. in SLC.
Plus he has the brass oar locks, oar rights, and can order oars cheaper than anyone else. Mike Walton is the guy. Sells a lot of rafting equipment. Only boat dealer I deal with. Can't say enough good stuff about him.

I just recently purchased a TU Colorado and have had it out a few times on some local stillwater here in Texas. I found a couple of bags that make transporting the toon a breeze. Check it out on my blog at http://feathersandfur.blogspot.com/2005/10/boat-in-bag.html.
I have also purchased a small anchor and received a Scotty fly rod holder as a gift. I also added some small clips to the end of each pontoon to make attaching a tow line easier. I'm considering adding a wheel similar to the one shown here:

DJWB,
I have the same boat as you and went about a year breaking it down after ever trip. When you start adding stuff (like fish finders motors etc), you get to a point where it's too much trouble to do after every trip. I felt I was waisting valuable fishing time. I now store my boat assembled and transport it on top of my subaru. Works like a charm. I would most likely break it down for a really long trip (3-4 hours...)

This is Joni, (someday I will get my own identity) We have the cardiac canyons and originally they would break down to 24" x 24" x 12" and they had a rolling duffle for them, but we ended up putting a platform on them which make breaking down impossible, however we have deflated them folded the potoons over the frame which leaves us at 5'8" x 4' and they fit into the back of our van or the roof of my Suzuki, but I am a little casious about deflating and inflating allot. I think about our hip waders, when you leave then folded over after awhile they start to check or crack. Maybe the potoons won't do that but I don't know. We leave ours inflated year round and hang them from the rafter in our garage. We bought a trailer from Harbor Freight for about $249. and modified it for another $100. Makes life real easy.

The toon continues it's evolution for 2007. Gone, Xm-radio (switched to sirius). :( New additions: motor thanks to a $100 gift card from the wife to cabelas (technically it bought the battery and charger but whatever). Cool. Also along with the motor, I bought a sweet battery box at sportsmens. It's made by seasense. It's got built in terminals on the outside, circuit breaker, power meter, and cigarette lighter plug on the outside (to plug in the finder and etc...) Anyway, it was about 30 bucks and I think WELL worth the extra $20-$25 above a standard battery box.

1 more thing, $22.83 to register my boat @ the DMV. When you do it, it's the same category as canoes and jon boats.
Total to go motorised, approx $269.
$78 for the batery
$25 for the charger
$99 for the motor (minkotta 32 lbs)
$32 for the batery box
$23 to register with the state
$22 for stickers and plexi to mount them (minus $10 free lowes gift car.)
