I need some ideas for early season still water midge patterns. How big? 10' & 12's? I've seen alot in the ff mags & on the www, but I'd like to hear what you local flat water gu-ru's prefer.

Thx in advance for your generous replies.

Peace

I always liked the look of the frost bite midges?? I think that's what they are. Who's the Asian gentleman that spins up all that stillwater midge stuff? I read his article years ago, but can't remeber his name....

Brian Chan? He's got some good Chironomid patterns. If you want some killer patterns, get Dennis Brakke to spill the beans. He's got some awesome chironomids...

Cheech has some great ones too. Just ask the Bluegill and Bass on Pelican.

Size 12 about 90% Some 10's. Yeah I've got a few good patterns. Cheech knows. Those who might have attended some of my more recent tying demos have seen some of my new "neat" patterns. I'm going to get together with Curtis and put together a series of DVD's with all of my Favorite patterns.

Oe of my most successful patterns is

#12 scud hook
Body- tinsel
Ribbing- fine silver wire
Over body- Orange flexi floss
Thorax- peacock herl (or dubbing sub)
Bead- 1/8" silver brite bead
gills- white arctic fox (sticking out the front of the bead)

Hang it under an indicator and hang on.
