I was thinking about getting into bamboo rod restoration. I already have a lot of rods. Just need the to put the time and effort into them. Anyone else here restore bamboo?

I have a few bamboo rods myself including a bamboo trolling rod. These are all old rods. Thought about restoring them, but I'm not sure if that would depreciate the current value. So I thought to myself that the old worn down, rustic look to them sorta adds the the look as they hang on my walls.
There are 2 kinds of restoration IMO. First, Restoring a rod to its original state and being very careful to restore it to to its authentic original form.
Second: there is just cosmetic restoration to bring back to life without worry of its original state.
99% of older bamboo rods can fall into the latter because a stripping rewrapping and refinish are not going to hurt the value because the value is minimal anyway. What I'm getting at was there were a lot of production rods that were good rods but do not hold much value due to who or what company manufactured them. Now If you are lucky enough to have a true Gem from a maker like PH Young, Leonard, Payne, or the like then you want to be very carefull in the restoration. If a rod is in good shape and you want to strip it down and refinish it, that is a fairly easy project. If the rod ha delaminated, lost ferrules, or is broken its a much more difficult process.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

HTM, between tying all those flies and restoring cane rods, when are you going to have time to fish??

You are right, I am not fishing nearly as much as I used too. Oh well. Norm, thanks for the reply. The rods that I am trying to restore are for the most part lower-mid production rods. H-I, South Bend, and some no-namers. I have one more question. One of my bamboo pieces is missing the ferrule. Do you know of any good places to get ferrules?
Thanks for the help!
